Azalea Leaves Autumn With A Bang

Well into December here on the east coast and shrubbery is still giving us an autumn show! It's a little late for this, no? The Azalea is one of the last of my trees/shrubs to still be in its leaf changing cycle and it's quite beautiful.

I'm a baking and gardening enthusiast. I make silly movies that will never be relevant but pleases me all the same. I tend to say things that make people look at me like "whaaaaa?" I get it from my mother and she gets it from her father. Tradition is nice.

​The tough and mighty Nanouk plant was developed in 2012 in Sappemeer, The Netherlands and is sometimes referred to as Fantasy Venice. Nanouk originated in Central/South America until recently when  two selected seedlings of  Tradescantia albiflora  were   cross-pollinating giving us the breed we grow  today. The compact yet sprawling and upright Nanouk is considered a fast grower, typically reaching a height and width of just under three-and-a-half feet. Royal Empress Tree (First Season Growth)

When I bought my Royal Empress tree it was a bare root with a bud, nothing more. That was 5 months ago (beginning of growing season for north east). I told family, friends and neighbors that a huge tree would appear here shortly. They all laughed at me (some people, MOM, even made financial bets with me that the little root with a bud would not grow beyond a few feet tall at most. I PROVED THEM WRONG!  My two Royal Empress trees (sold to me as sterile, non-invasive variety) have shot up to over 8 feet tall and the growing season has not ended. As you can see I am beginning to trim the bottom leaves little by little as the trunk matures. Can't wait to see the beautiful flowers they bare and I'm looking forward to continue watching these two trees reach toward the clouds. Btw…people stop in their cars to ask me what they are ALL THE TIME. They literally have become the talk of the neighborhood. Pretty fun stuff! (click on first image to see progression of growth) ...

The Wisdom in the Wisdom Tree Hike

The mountains and hiking trails are wonderful here in California. The first time I hiked #WisdomTree I climbed a quarter the way up. My breathing became labored and the altitude had me a little light headed. Being a neurotic I stopped there. On the second try I made it about half way up. I felt accomplished. I had been having a bad week and to me, adding another quarter to the first was an improvement I could live with. In the past I had some lung issues (a #collapsedlung and I was a smoker) Correction, I am a smoker. BUT, this past year I have switched to vaping and I'll talk about that some other time. So on my third trip to The Wisdom Tree mountain trail in sunny California I cleared my mind and looked down at the dirt trail.
